FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood field hockey goalkeeper
Sophie Mooldijk was named the MAC Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season, the conference office announced this morning.
Â
Mooldijk played a pivotal role in helping Longwood's defense stand firm, leading the Lancers to a road win at Ohio and tallying 33 total saves in two matches.
Â
At Ohio, Mooldijk piled up 13 saves to lead the Lancers to a 2-1 win. She came up especially big in the second quarter, making five saves in that 15-minute segment to keep the game tied 1-1 at the half. In addition, she and the Lancer defense fought off nine penalty corners.
Â
Her Ohio performance came on the heels of a career day against Appalachian State. She racked up a career best 20 saves and was critical in keeping Longwood in the match against one of the league leaders. The match was tied 1-1 through nearly 45 minutes, and Mooldijk faced 36 shots.
Â
For the season, Mooldijk has posted 139 saves with a .760 save percentage. She has one shutout and has played every minute of Longwood's 14 games.
Â
The Lancers are back in action this weekend when they host Central Michigan on Friday at 2 p.m. and No. 7 Liberty on Sunday at noon.
