Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Longwood was the side that created the early advantages behind a strong opening sequence from the first push.
Â
The Lancers moved up the field and created a pair of penalty corners in the opening minutes and registered the first few shots of the match, but the Liberty back line fended off the chances.
Â
However, Liberty found its footing and struck with back-to-back penalty corner goals from Morena Giacosa and Julieta Tornati in the sixth and seventh minute, respectively. Avery Pollock added one more in the waning seconds of the first quarter.
Â
That lead allowed Liberty to comfortably finish out the half, with the Flames taking a 4-0 lead into halftime after Giacosa's second goal of the contest.
Â
Channy Johnson muscled in a goal for Longwood early in the third period to get Longwood on the board. The junior batted in her eighth goal of the season off a rebound from a
Maria Papas shot.
Â
Liberty answered back though to put the game to rest.
Â
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Â
- Sophie Mooldijk made 11 saves in goal for the Lancers
- Diane Saint Martin made four saves for Liberty in goal
