Longwood University unveiled its brand new Fight Song on Aug. 19, 2013 during the pep rally in Willett Hall prior to The G.A.M.E. 3.0 (Greatest Athletics March Ever) for the women's soccer home match against VCU, attended by over 1,700. The G.A.M.E. 3.0 pre-match festivities included a spirit carnival and tailgating in the Grand Dining Room of the Longwood Dining Hall, followed by the pep rally that featured the unveiling of the Fight Song and a march from campus up Fourth Street and Longwood Avenue to the soccer facility on Johnston Drive. The grand marshal was Rob Blankenship '00, who is the creator of the new fight song, Hail to Longwood U! This was the third consecutive year for the event, a collective effort among the Athletics Department, the Office of First Year Experience and the Town of Farmville. This marks the first time in Longwood's history that the Lancers have released an official fight song.
"I am very proud of Longwood's new fight song," said former Director of Athletics Troy Austin. "It provides the entire Longwood family a rallying point for Lancer spirit. My great thanks goes to Rob Blankenship for composing the song's music, Stephen Hudson for providing the fun video and to the Spirit Committee for initiating both efforts."
A video for the song, "Hail To Longwood U!" was produced by Longwood student Stephen Hudson '13 and is available on the
Longwood YouTube channel and features members of the Lancers' family, including student-athletes, coaches and administrators, faculty and staff. The lyrics for the fight song are below.
