MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – The Longwood women's cross-country team opened the season with a strong showing, placing sixth out of 14 teams while rewriting the program's 4k record book.

While stacking multiple personal bests, three Lancers broke 15 minutes with
Sophie Farley cracking the 14-minute mark.

NOTABLE RESULTS:

Sophie Farley steamrolled her own personal best that was also the program record. She flew through the course with a 13:51.9 to finish ninth in the field.

Sophomore
Kirsten Morley also had an impressive race of her own, shaving 40 seconds off her personal best with a 14:37.7 that allowed her to finish 30
th in the field.

Sydney O'Hara-Wood was the third finisher on the squad to break 15 minutes, with a 14:51.3 that also is a top 10 time in team history. She finished 45
th.

Priscilla Keller added a top 10 time of her own with a 15:18 that had her finish 69
th, and
Nicole Pinder finished in 15:25.8 as the team's fifth-fastest runner. The time also would have been in the top 10 in team history entering the day.

Lanie Grogg and
Kai Wheeler also ran personal bests.

Longwood finished sixth overall, just 15 points behind James Madison University and 66 points behind American after breaking the average time for the program by lowering it to 14:45.

"We came into this race with some big goals for both teams," said Head Coach
Brooke Craig. "They wanted to improve the team performances from previous years and our average scoring time. They did exactly what we set out to do. It was a full team effort and an excellent start to the season."
