FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood men's soccer team is set to play six times at home in a 16-match slate, announced on Tuesday by third-year head coach Paul Gilbert.
After a two-match exhibition schedule against Louisburg College Aug. 8 and at Virginia Aug. 15, the Lancers open the regular season at William & Mary Aug. 20, at 6 p.m.
The home opener pits Longwood against former Big South Conference member Coastal Carolina Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. Southern Virginia comes to Longwood Athletics Complex Aug. 28 at 7 p.m., before the Lancers embark on a three-match road trip to Campbell (Sept. 1), East Tennessee State (Sept. 5) and James Madison (Sept. 11), respectively.
Navy is in Farmville Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. The Lancers are 2-0-1 against the Midshipmen over the last three seasons.
Big South play opens Sept. 19 at UNC Asheville at 2 p.m., while the league home schedule begins Sept. 26 at 6 p.m., against USC Upstate.
Longwood is at High Point Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. The Panthers earned a first-round bye in the NCAA tournament a season ago and beat West Virginia in the second round. Following a trip the ACC's Virginia Tech Oct. 6 at 7, Gardner-Webb travels to Longwood Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.
The Lancers play a final regular-season non-conference match at Elon Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. Longwood nipped the Phoenix, 1-0, last season in Farmville in their first meeting since 2009.
Longwood is at Winthrop (Oct. 17) and Presbyterian (Oct. 23) before the Lancers host Radford to close the regular season Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
