DAVIDSON, N.C. – Longwood field hockey hung tough, but a pair of goals by Davidson proved the difference at the bookends of a match on Friday night.
 
Sib Naaktgeboren led Davidson (2-3) with both goals to edge the Lancers (1-4), who were playing their fourth road match out of five to start the season, 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
Longwood earned a penalty corner early, but Davidson struck first with a goal by Naaktgeboren, who put home her fifth goal of the season in the fifth minute.
 
The Lancer back line, and Sophie Mooldijk, then locked in to keep the Lancers around the game. Mooldijk finished the match with 13 saves.
 
However, Davidson's defense also proved tough to handle and limited Longwood's opportunities on the night.
 
Naaktgeboren then slotted home her second goal of the match with less than a minute to play to put the game away.
 
WHAT THEY SAID:
 
"Tough day on the road today," said Longwood Head Coach Miranda Rigg. "Davidson is always a competitive team for us. They play very aggressive and fast. Unfortunately, we didn't connect all over the field well enough to be able to break through. It is still early in the season, and I have hopes for this group's growth."
 
UP NEXT:
 
Longwood stays on the road with a trip to Lynchburg, where the Lancers will take on UAlbany on Sunday morning. First push is set for 11 a.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
