Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
The two sides were structured and organized early behind defenses that were tough to break down. Neither side recorded a shot in the first quarter.
Â
However, early in the second quarter, UAlbany, who was picked to finish third in the America East after being at the top of the league standings in the past two seasons, took advantage of a chance in front of the cage for a 1-0 lead when Emma Staron found Jenna Zunic in front of the goal in the 18
th minute.
Â
The Lancer back line stiffened again though and prevented anything else from point blank range.
Â
UAlbany extended the lead to 2-0 in the third quarter on a well-executed penalty corner, and a third goal scored while Longwood chased in the fourth.
Â
WHAT THEY SAID:
Â
"Today was a good battle," said Longwood Head Coach
Miranda Rigg. "We played together and fought strong. Our outlets and ball movement were huge improvements from Friday. We just have to get more opportunities in the final third."
Â
UP NEXT:
Â
The Lancers return home for a two-match homestand, and they open MAC play by hosting Ball State on Friday, September 20. First push is set for 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.
