LYNCHBURG, Va. – Indoor track season has officially begun for Longwood, as the Lancer men and women made their official debut at the Liberty Kick Off today.

The team announced it will begin competing at the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championship this academic year for the first time after adding outdoor track two seasons ago.

NOTABLE RESULTS:

AJ Koval,
Benjamin Goulet,
Clinton Clancy, and
Alec Daniel all made big strides in the 5,000m run with Koval finishing second overall with a time of 15:24.03. His time set the men's indoor record, bettering Matt Kroetch's time set in 2007 by nine seconds.

Sophie Farley did what she does best and set a program record in the women's 3,000m run. She finished second with a 9:42.34. She led a strong women's effort in that event with six Lancer women finishing under 11 minutes to rewrite the team records.

Andrew Hathaway recorded a time of 4:27.91 in the men's mile to finish 13
th in the field. He beat his personal best by one second and was only one second off the team indoor record.

In the men's 1,000m run, the team had a pair of top 10 finishes. Louis Semtner was seventh with a 2:33.27, and Andrew Rutherford was right behind him in ninth with a 2:33.77. The duo both posted the top times in the team's indoor record book.

Ayden Stewart finished sixth in the finals of the men's 400m dash, posting a time of 48.98, and Liliana Arevalo placed ninth in the women's 400m dash with a 59.94. She broke her own program record by two seconds to break a minute for the first time in indoor.

Stewart also finished sixth in the men's 200m dash with a 22.14, and Jaidyn Foddrell was eighth with a 22.16 in his Longwood debut. Both topped the old program indoor record by half a second, held by Stewart.

Chris Smith was eighth in the men's 500m dash with a 1:07.91.

Nyomi Rhodes set a personal best, and lowered the team record in the process, in the women's 60m hurdles with a 9.26. She also set a personal best in the 200m with a 25.94 that lowered the program record by more than half a second.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Jaidyn Foddrell,
Josh Martin,
Chris Smith and
Ayden Stewart posted a 3:25.07 to lower the team record by two seconds while finishing sixth.

The Lancer women's 4x400 relay of
Nyomi Rhodes, Riley Humphries, Rachael Zimmer and Liliana Arevalo also lowered the team record with a 4:04.58 while finishing sixth.

"Also, I wanted to give a shout out to my assistant coach, Jacob Torres, who has raised the bar for Longwood sprints, jumps and hurdles in just his first meet," Craig added about her first-year assistant coach who joined the program this summer.
