CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Longwood midfielder Benjamin Ferrero has been named Big South Freshman of the Week in men's soccer, the league announced on Monday.
Ferrero scored his second collegiate goal as Longwood beat Presbyterian, 5-3, at home on Friday to end the season. His 53rd-minute tally to make it 3-1 was the first in a four-goal second half for the Lancers that helped secure a victory in a must-win contest, keeping them in contention for the final Big South tournament berth at the time.
On the play, Ferrero got on the end of a Brando Bedolla centering feed from the left side of the box. Paul Espinoza earned the secondary assist, chipping the ball forward to Bedolla.
Ferrero finished the season with two goals and one assist for five points in 12 matches, including 11 starts.
The Esquel, Argentina native is the second Longwood player to earn a Big South weekly honor this season, going Bedolla who was Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 20.
Longwood finished the season 3-8-5 overall and 1-4-2 in the Big South.
