HOW IT HAPPENED:

Shots and penalty corners were almost even between the two sides, and the Lancers earned the first penalty corner of the match.

However, Appalachian State scored first on a penalty corner late in the first quarter. Lise Boekaar found Henriette Stegen on the back post for a deflection home.

Hadley Kuzmicky deflected home a shot from Charlotte Bosma two minutes later for a 2-0 lead.

The Lancers responded with a trio of penalty corners in the final minute of the first quarter, but that final touch was elusive.

In the second quarter,
Luna Prieri had a great chance, but a defensive save by Sarah Perkins denied Longwood's leading goal scorer.

The Lancers kept applying pressure, but Appalachian State fended off Longwood as Stegen added a late goal for the final tally.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Unfortunately, tonight didn't go our way," said Longwood Head Coach
Miranda Rigg. "We didn't show up and play team hockey like I know we can. Appalachian State is a great fast, fit team, and they finished on their opportunities when we didn't. I believe in this group any day of the week, but we need to start believing in ourselves."

UP NEXT:
