HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Wake Forest controlled the ball for much of the contest, but Longwood's defense didn't give away anything easily.
Â
The Lancers held Wake Forest to only six first half shots, despite defending for the majority of the opening 30 minutes. In addition, the Lancers only gave up four penalty corners in the half, and six for the game.
Lara Van Nunen had six saves in goal for Longwood.
Â
However, Wake Forest finally found a seam and broke through on Nat Friedman's shot on a penalty corner in the middle of the second quarter.
Â
Longwood responded well, but Wake Forest added another goal on a deflection by Brooke McCusker off a penalty corner after halftime to give Wake Forest a multi-goal lead.
Â
The Lancers surged in the third quarter in response and fired off a trio of shots, but Wake Forest's defense prevented the final touch from going in.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"Wake is a great, fast team, and they played well today," said Longwood Head Coach
Miranda Rigg. "We showed up and played team hockey and showed lots of progress from Friday. I'm proud of this team and their fight."
