TOWSON, Md.- A back and forth field hockey match went the Towson Tigers way as they took down the Lancers 3-2 in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Tigers (1-2) struck first after Antone slotted her first goal of the season, unassisted, in the first quarter. Longwood (1-2) would respond early in the second when Donahue scored from a penalty corner, straight away and opening up her goals account for the 2022 season.Loscher and McDermott added the assists for the goal. The match was tied at one all at the first half whistle.
Towson regained the lead in the third quarter when Veldhuizen scored off a Tillman assist.
The Lancers scored a dramatic second with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Verhappen tied it up from a penalty corner with Underwood and McDermott both picking up assists.
The Tigers got a penalty stroke just over two minutes into the overtime period, and Beachley was able to put it home and give Towson the victory.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"Losses are going to happen but today unfortunately we didn't own our battles for half of it," said first year head coach
Miranda Rigg on the teams performance today. "On a positive note we fought back strong and went into OT in good spirits, but ultimately didn't go our way."
"Overall we need to find a way to start strong and not just finish strong due to our fight mentality," further added Rigg on what they team can learn from this match going forward. "We're putting the pieces of the puzzle together and I believe in the growth we make each time we step out there."

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
With the defeat the Lancers snapped a four game winning streak against Towson, but still lead the all-time series 6-5.
Longwood out-shot the Tigers 13-12 overall, the two teams tied on shots on goal with eight a piece.
Both Longwood goals were scored straight from penalty corners.
McDermott's two assists were her first points of both the season and her career.
Verhappen's goal was just the second of her career and the first since the 2020 season.
