DURHAM,  N.C. - Longwood University's field hockey team fell to nationally-ranked #10 Duke University  of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in Durham,  North Carolina. The Lancers (2-4) return to action on Sunday, September 20, when they  face the University of North Carolina, ranked second nationally, of the ACC in Chapel Hill, N.C., at 1  p.m..
 
Longwood fell behind early  in the game after a Duke (4-2) goal in the fifth minute. Duke would control the ball  but the Lancers' defense would hold firm until the 30th minute when they allowed  another goal. Duke scored two more goals in a three-minute period to take a 4-0  lead at halftime. 
The Blue Devils scored three  goals in the second half to make the final score 7-0. Seven Duke players scored  while Abby Hassinger and Chelsey Amsley had one goal and one  assist.
“We did a good job  defensively in the first 20 minutes,” said Longwood head coach 
Iain Byers.  “After they scored the second goal, we got away from our game plan. This is  something to learn from and we will learn quickly as we prepare for North  Carolina tomorrow.”
 
Duke outshot Longwood 32-1  and had a 20-1 advantage on penalty corners. Sophomore 
Olga Knop/Berlin, Germany  (Wener-von-Siemens-Gymnasium) had Longwood's only shot. Junior  goalkeeper 
Erin Bollinger/Midlothian (Clover  Hill) had nine saves.
