HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lancers started the scoring run at the top of the second with an RBI double from Tre Keels that drove Tufts home.

Longwood took off in the top of the fourth after Pulliam hammered a double to right center for two RBI before Max Lawson bunted home another run for a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Howard scored after an error by center fielder Jared Hall to widen the lead.

Howard came back in the top of the sixth for a two RBI single through the left side to pile on the lead 7-0.

Tufts closed the Lancer scoring with a solo homer to left field to make it 8-0 in the seventh.

The Phoenix worked to lessen the lead at the bottom of the next three innings, scoring one run in each, but the Lancer pitching staff was able to limit the damage and preserve the win.

Brayden Gray made his season debut and started the game, striking out two in his lone inning of work.

Drew Siegner (1-0 walked away with the win after pitching five shutout innings. He limited Elon to two hits and a walk.

Cole Miller (0-1) took the loss for Elon. He gave up one run in three innings while walking two and giving up one hit.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Braydon Gray got us out to a great start, and Drew Siegner took it from there", said Head Coach Ray Noe about his pitching staff's game. "He was absolutely fantastic tonight and kept their hitters off balance for five innings. The pitching staff as a whole continues to attack opposing hitters, and it's been really fun to watch."

"The offense set the tone again by finishing a way to score first. Pulliam had a big two strike RBI double to break it open in the fourth, and then we found ways to tack a few on the rest of the way", said Noe. "We continue to operate at a high level by controlling the zone and taking what the game gives us. We walked ten times today and stole four bags, which is a recipe for our success."

UP NEXT:
