Men’s Tennis Falls at William & Mary, 6-1

Plane wins in straights in No. 3 singles

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision in non-conference action at William & Mary on Wednesday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.

The Lancers' point came courtesy of Rufus Plane, who beat Nikita Bortnichek, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 singles to make it 2-1 in favor of the Tribe.

Elsewhere, Daniel Borisov battled Oliver Hague at No. 2. After winning the first set, 6-4, Hague won 6-3 and 6-4 in the final two sets to take that match for a 5-1 lead. Prior to that, Dylan Chou topped Daniel Lopez, 6-3 in the first set on court five before Lopez took Chou to a second-set tiebreaker. Lopez, however, fell, 7-3, there.

Longwood dropped to 0-3 on the season with the loss while William & Mary improved to 1-1.

Longwood returns home to open its home slate Sunday against Richmond at 2 p.m., on the New Lancer Courts.
