FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood lacrosse freshman
Ava Bower was named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced today.
Â
Bower made her collegiate debut in Longwood's season opener at Coastal Carolina and stuffed the stat sheet for the Lancers.
Â
She scored her first collegiate goal against the Chanticleers, who were picked to finish third in the Atlantic Sun preseason poll, and she added two draw controls. In addition, she recorded one caused turnover.
Â
Her goal came in the fourth quarter on a free position, and she had three shots in the contest, all on target.
Â
She is the first Lancer to earn Big South Freshman of the Week honors since now-sophomore
Alexandra Hirst did so last season after the opening weekend.
Â
Longwood is in the midst of a stretch where it plays three road games out of four to start the season. This weekend, the Lancers play at William & Mary on Saturday at noon.
