Lancers Host Lafayette, Travel to No. 20 Wake Forest

DOUBLE DUTY:
  • This upcoming weekend, the Lancers have two matches, Lafayette and Wake Forrest
  • Longwood hosts Lafayette at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field on Friday afternoon, the home opener for the Lancers
  • Sunday afternoon, the Lancers head to No. 20 Wake Forest
  • Longwood comes into these matchups 1-1 after falling to Richmond 3-0 in the season opener before winning 3-1 at Queens
MATCHUP HISTORY:
  • Lafayette and Longwood have faced off four times before
  • Lafayette has won all four matches, with their most recent competition in 2016, the Leopards won 2-1
  • All four matches have been decided by one goal, with two going to overtime (one ending in a shootout)
  • Longwood has played Wake Forest 11 times, with Wake Forest leading the series 7-2-2
  • The last matchup occurred October 18th, 2023, with a 3-0 loss at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field. 
LEAPING LEOPARDS:
  • Lafayette comes into this match 2-0, with wins over Fairfield and Drexel, both 2-0 victories
  • The Leopards' leading scorers are Lauren Kurek, Stella Malinowski, Linda Nova, and Laila Pasic. Mackenzie Switzer and Josephine Van Wijk both tallied assists in the last two matches. 
  • On the back line, Mackenzie Switzer and Lena Thedrian both made defensive saves. 
  • In the goal, Raffi Fragomeni (2-1) started and played both games, making 13 saves, and completing two shutouts. 
DEMON DEACON DOWNLOAD:
  • The Demon Deacons are 0-2, but lost to two top 20 competitors.
  • Wake Forest lost to No. 15 Iowa 5-4 and No. 7 Michigan 2-1 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on opening weekend.
  • Wake Forest will travel to play Davidson Friday September 5th at 6pm. 
  • Their leading scorer, Mia Montag has two goals and one assist for this season.
  • Lexi Causa, Faye Janse, and Mia Schoenbeck all have added a goal each. Lena Keller has two assists, Ava Moore, Georgia Pollock, and Lauren Storey each added an assist. 
  • Ruby Butterfield made four saves and allowed three goals starting for the Demon Deacons. 
SHOT STOPPER:
  • In the past two appearances, sophomore goalkeeper Sophie Mooldijk (1-1) has made 15 saves for the Lancers.
  • She has faced 45 shots and played all 120 minutes in the cage for Longwood.
  • Against Richmond, Mooldijk made 11 saves, the sixth time in her career she has made at least 10 saves in a match.
SHE SHOOTS, SHE SCORES:
  • In their last appearance, the Lancers scored three goals, each by a different player.
  • Madi Wiley scored 34 seconds into the match, notching her seventh career goal.
  • Freshman Hailey Flick sent one home in the second quarter for a 2-0 lead against Queens for her first collegiate goal
  • Finally, off a penalty corner Channy Johnson tallied the team's third goal of the match off a find from Meghan Hyatt. It was Johnson's first career goal
