FARMVILLE, Va. – Two members of the Longwood baseball team have been named to the 2025 Academic All-District® NCAA Division I Baseball Team as selected by the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced today.

Alek Elges both earned the honor.
Nelson spent the season as one of Longwood's top hitters. He racked up a team-best .323 batting average and added a team-high 16 doubles in his 61 hits.
In addition, Nelson tied for the team lead with eight homers and 49 RBI. He had 18 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games, both the top marks on the team. He finished the season hitting safely in Longwood's final eight games.
In the classroom, Nelson also was an ace, posting a 3.78 GPA as a graduate student after graduating last spring with a 3.83 GPA as an undergraduate. He has been a Dean's List honoree five times and a President's List selection twice more.
Elges transferred to Longwood this season and was one of the team's most reliable arms out of the bullpen. He also posted a 3.83 GPA as an undergraduate before finishing with a 3.55 GPA in graduate school this year.
On the mound, Elges picked up one win and threw 58.1 innings, the second-highest total on the team. He struck out 45 batters and got the win in his final start of the year, a 6.2 inning effort against Radford in the season finale that capped a Longwood sweep to close the year. He struck out three in his deepest outing of the season while only giving up two runs on nine hits.
To be eligible for consideration, for CSC Academic All-District, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or key contributor to their respective team.
Since 1952, the award has recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Academic All-America® program recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
