ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Longwood men's tennis played a tightly-contested match at Navy on Sunday afternoon.
The Lancers (6-9) won three singles match, but the Midshipmen (18-14) won the doubles point and matched Longwood with three singles wins to take the match 4-3.
The Mids swept all three doubles matchups to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The two teams did play a fourth doubles pairing, with Longwood's
Ian Perl and
Gary Huang winning their matchup 6-1, but Navy won Nos. 1, 2 and 3.
Timeo Puech put the Lancers on the board in singles. The Lancer aces took a straight sets win over Aniketh Ayinala. Puech cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles.
The Mids then took a 2-1 lead after a win at No. 2 singles, but Longwood again tied it back up on
Alejandro Uribe's comeback win at No. 4. After dropping the first set 6-3, Uribe only dropped three games in the final two sets, winning them 6-1 and 6-2.
Navy then won Nos. 3 and 5 singles before
Petter Lindquist won at No. 6 to close out the match. Lindquist also rallied after falling in the first set 6-3, winnings his final two sets 6-0 and 6-4.
The men return to action with a trip to Richmond on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
