FARMVILLE, Va. — Freshman
Marko Mrdak outlasted Presbyterian's Eduardo Valentin in three sets in No. 5 singles to lift the Longwood men's tennis team to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory in Big South action on the New Lancer Courts Friday.
Mrdak, the reigning Big South Freshman of the Week, won the final two sets, 6-2, 6-1 after Valentin claimed the first, 6-4.
The dual match win was the first for Lomngwood (6-7, 1-1 Big South) against the Blue Hose since March 14, 2012.
The Lancers came all the way back from down, 3-1 for the win.
Timéo Puech shaved it a 3-2 deficit with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over David Mamalat from the top spot in the lineup.
Alejandro Uribe followed with a three-set win of his own over Evgenios Vasilakis on court four. Uribe won the first set, 7-5, Vasilakis the second, 6-2, before Uribe returned the favor, 6-2 in the third to knot the dual at 3-3.
Presbyterian (5-10, 1-1) took the early lead, claiming the doubles point. Pedro Cardoso and Daksh Prasad defeated
Petar Belosevic and
Petter Lindquist, 7-5, at No. 2 prior to Denim Yadav and Valentin topping Uribe and Mrdak, 6-4, at No. 3.
Lindquist dispatched Yadav on court six to begin singles, 6-3, 7-5, to make it 1-1. PC then received victories from Cardoso and Prasad on Nos. 2 and 3, each in straight sets to build its lead.
Next, Longwood travels to face Wake Forest April 4. First serve in Winston-Salem, N.C., is set for 7 p.m.
