LAFAYETTE, La. — Top-ranked Texas scored in three different innings and tallied 10 hits to defeat the Longwood softball team, 8-0, in five innings in the 39th Annual Louisiana Classics on Friday.
Ranked No. 1 in both the NFCA Coaches and USA Softball polls, the Longhorns (1-0) received two hits apiece from Kayden Henry, Mia Scott and Leighann Goode while Mac Morgan and Cambria Salmon combined for a three-hit shutout.
The Longhorns scored once in the first inning, four times in the second and three three more in the third.
Texas broke the game open in the second with RBI doubles from Scott and Reese Atwood, sandwiching a run-scoring single by Goode.

Morgan Strickland entered and yeilded three runs (one earned) on three hits in one inning.
Er'ron Burton came in and fanned two batters in her one inning before
Cierra Gawryluk finished the fifth with a groundout.

Avery Jefferson hit a double to center field with one out in the fourth for the Lancers, advancing to third, but was cut down attempting to steal.Â
Sophia Knock singled to the pitcher, also in the forth inning.
Avery Drake collected Longwood other hit, leading off the game with a single down the left-field line.
Longwood, which opened the day with a 4-3 win against George Mason in eight innings, evened its record to 1-1 with the loss.
The Lancers are back in action Saturday at 10:30 a.m., central time facing Seton Hall and will then rematch with Mason at 3:30 p.m. Both teams split their Friday games with Seton Hall beating the host Ragin' Cajuns prior to falling to the Patriots.
