INSIDE THE MATCHUP

  • Longwood will travel to Matthews, N.C. to the Matthews Sportsplex for the Big South Semi-finals at 7 p.m. on Thursday
  • The Lancers enter the match 9-7-2, 5-3 in the Big South after a 2-0 win at home in the first round of the Big South tournament against No. 6 Charleston Southern on Nov. 1
  • The Spartans enter the match 10-6-1, 6-2 in the Big South after a 3-0 win on the road against UNC Asheville to finish the regular season on Oct. 29
  • The winner of this match will advance to the Big South Championship on Sunday, Nov. 9

 

MATCHUP HISTORY

  • This will be the 11th meeting between the two teams
  • Longwood leads the overall series 5-4-1 after a 2-0 loss on Oct. 11 in Spartanburg, S.C
  • The Lancers took six shots in the first half, four of which were within two minutes of each other
  • Meghan Piazza hit the woodwork in the 13th minute

LAST TIME OUT

  • Longwood faced off against No. 6 Charleston Southern in Farmville, Va., for a 2-0 win in the quarterfinals
  • The Lancers held Charleston Southern to only one shot in the first half
  • Piazza scored off a penalty kick in the 55th minute to lead 1-0
  • Remi Siner earned her first goal of the season and brought the score to 2-0, off an assist from Sarah Olson, to cement the Lancers' win

LANCER PLAYOFF HISTORY

  • This is the first time the Lancers have made it to the semi-finals since 2021, when Longwood lost 3-0 to High Point
  • The two teams last met in the first round of the Big South tournament back in 2018, where Upstate won 1-0
  • Longwood is 4-8-3 in the Big South Tournament with one trip to the championship game, in 2017

ALL CONFERENCE

  • Sam Fischer, Sara Curtis, Meghan Piazza, and Sydney Robertson all earned Big South All-Conference Honors on Oct. 31
  • Fischer was voted Big South Freshman of the Year by the coaches
  • She was also voted All-Freshman and First Team awards
  • Curtis was selected as the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned All-Academic and Second Team awards
  • Robertson earned First Team All-Big South Honors for a second year in a row. She's the first Lancer center back to do this since Sidney Wallace did it three times from 2016-18
  • Piazza earned Second Team Honors, after being named a top return in the Big South prior to the 2025 season
