EDISTO BEACH, S.C. – Longwood women's golf saved the best for last to climb up into the top five in the team's final round of the fall today.
 
The Lancers moved up five spots into fourth at the Edisto Island Invitational, hosted at The Plantation Course at Edisto.
 
Abigail Sheldon ripped off the team's low round of the tournament, and three Lancers finished in the top 25.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS:
 
The Lancers knocked 14 strokes off their second round and the 289 was the fourth-best team score of the day. That helped Longwood from ninth to fourth for the team's fourth top five finish of the fall.
 
Sheldon roared up the standings with a bogey-free 68 that was one of the best rounds on the day. She had a trio of birdies to climb 22 spots into a tie for 25^th in the 77-player field. She finished with a three-round tally of 81-79-68—228 (+15).
 
Avery Nordman was the top finisher on the team for the tournament, tying for 14^th after three consistent rounds. The freshman battled her way to a 75-74-75—224 (+11). She closed well, making eight straight pars to end the tournament.
 
Chiara Wippert was the third member to finish in the top 25, and the sophomore improved over each of her three rounds. She posted a two-over 73 in the final round to move up two spots into sole possession of 20^th, and she finished with a three-round score of 78-75-73—226 (+13).
 
Madison Lehr also had her final round of the fall serve as her best round, finishing with a 73 on the day. She climbed six spots into a tie for 38^th with a three-round tally of 82-77-73—232 (+19).
 
Caroline Tragesser finished tied for 48^th with an 82-77-78—237 (+24).

"We had a great round today!" said Longwood Head Coach Megan Weaver. "Moving up from ninth to fourth with the teams in the field was unbelievable. Abigail led the team with an amazing bogey-free 68. As a team, the success came from keeping the ball in play and committing confidently to putts. We really ended the fall season on a high note!"
