Phoebe Mitchell won her No. 3 singles match in straight sets for the Longwood women's tennis team, but Campbell earned a 6-1 victory in non-conference action at the Lancer Courts on Monday.
Mitchell defeated Tamsin Hart, 6-3, 6-3, to pull the Lancers to within 3-1 in the dual match. The Camels, however, took the final three matches for the final margin.
Karina Rizvanova and Mitchell gave Longwood (4-9) an early lead in doubles with a 6-3 win over Eeva Ristola and Lena Karlovcan from the top spot, but Campbell (9-6) took the remaining two doubles matches to earn the point. Hart and Mialy Ranaivo topped
Sophia Marchetta and
Nina Hederich, 6-3, at No. 3 and Mariana Ossa and Lily Chitambar beat
Oriana Izarra and
Feline van Eijkelenburg, 6-3, at No. 2.
Ranaivo defeated van Eijkelenburg, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 1 singles to push the Campbell lead to 2-0. Karlovcan then beat
Alexis Broderick, 7-5, 6-2, on court six to make it 3-0.
Ossa beat Rizvanova, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 5, Chitambar outlasted Marchetta, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 on four and Ristola defeated Izarra, 6-4, 7-5, from the No. 2 position to close the match.
Longwood returns to Big South Conference play Wednesday hosting Radford at 2 p.m.
