DURHAM, N.C. — Senior forward Ethan Stevenson buried his second penalty-kick goal of the season in the 90th minute, but No. 5 Duke came away with a 4-1 win over the Longwood men's soccer team at Koskinen Stadium on Tuesday.
Stevenson deposited the ball into the bottom left of the net past goalkeeper Grant Farley with just 34 seconds remaining in the match on the Lancers' only shot for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Duke, though, put it away with three goals in the first half and another with only five minutes left.
Drew Kerr scored the opening goal in the 17th minute with an assist from Luke Thomas and added an assist on the Blue Devils 29th-minute tally by Colton Pleasants that made it 3-0.
Thomas was the only other player to figure into multiple goals on the night as he also assisted on Duke's second goal from Adam Luckhurst.
Caleb Donaldson closed the scoring in the 85th minute on a Hudson Hazelwood assist.
Max Hinke started in the Longwood goal before giving way to freshman Tor Fletcher for the final 15-plus minutes. Fletcher made the only save of the match form either side — an 82nd-minute stop on Sebastian Doctors — in the El Dorado, Trinidad and Tobago native's collegiate debut.
Duke (9-2-4) outshot the Lancers, 13-1, and posted seven corner kicks to none for Longwood.
Longwood (4-9-2) returns home Saturday to host Radford at the Longwood Athletics Complex for senior day. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m., and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
