FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood women's soccer was in control for second half on Sunday against Charleston Southern, but the Lancers (2-6-2, 0-1 Big South) found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard.
A late goal in the first half by Charleston Southern (6-2-2, 1-0 Big South) provided the difference in a match that saw Longwood rack up 13 shots to only three for the visitors.

LWU 0 0 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The 13 shots tied a season high for the Lancers, and the three shots allowed also tied a season low as Longwood played well on both sides of the ball over the final 45 minutes.
The first half was a more even affair. The Lancers had their best chance when
Julia Gill intercepted a pass, but her shot was deflected wide by CSU goalkeeper Jenna Moran, who had six saves on the night.
Late in the half, CSU was able to break through after a corner kick pinballed inside the six. Sydney Thomas put a foot on it, and Longwood goalkeeper
Mary Kate Levush managed to get a fingertip on it, but it wasn't enough to deflect it off course for the back of the net.
The Lancers roared out after halftime and outshot Charleston Southern nine to nothing, but the equalizer never came.
Julia Gill gave Longwood with four shots on the afternoon, and eight Lancers had a shot in the match.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"As simple as it sounds, I think our lack of energy and effort in the first half set the tone for what turned out to be a disappointing performance and result," said Longwood Head Coach
Todd Dyer. "Our group responded well in the second half in terms of competing at a higher level, but we still lacked some precision and quality with the final pass and finish. Today was a hard lesson, so I hope we learn from it and respond on Wednesday."
UP NEXT:
Longwood travels to Gardner-Webb for a Big South test on Wednesday, September 27. The match is slated to start at 5 p.m.
