HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kaya Yildirim dribbles in front of a packed grandstand at the Longwood Athletic ComplexIn front of a crowd of more than 1,000, the Lancers controlled the pace for a majority of the match against their crosstown foes, and the offense proved to be opportunistic and clinical in and around the 18-yard box.

While the Lancers featured multiple newcomers across the pitch, a pair of familiar faces linked up early on to get Longwood on the board.

Senior Anthony Roland, who was sensational on the wing throughout the night, lofted a cross to the back of the six in the 18th minute. Mason Butcher hit a thundering header home for the early 1-0 lead.

Longwood then held the Tigers at arms length for the rest of the half, but Hampden-Sydney came out strong to start the second half. The renewed vigor led to five second-half shots for the Tigers, but the Lancer back line repelled all chances and didn't surrender a shot on goal.

Emilio Segovia celebrates after scoring a goalMeanwhile, the Longwood offense pounced on opportunities to extend the lead. Gonzalo Carrasco stole a pass in the middle of the field, and he slipped it to Emilio Segovia near the top of the 18. The burly forward turned and fired for a 2-0 lead in the 66th minute.

Segovia wasn't done. Less than three minutes later, Roland curled a pass to the top of the 18, and Segovia again turned and fired it home for the final tally.
