HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the opening 45 minutes, it was a cagey battle between two defenses that refused to surrender many opportunities.
The back four for both teams didn't make mistakes and kept their opposing forwards from finding breathing room and space.
However, the game opened up a touch in the final 45 minutes.
High Point was on the front foot early in the second half, and the Panther attack forced a tough save from
Mary Kate Levush in the 59
th minute that turned into a corner kick. Schossler bent the corner into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead one minute later.
That goal ignited the Lancers though, and they pressed forward for the equalizer over the final 30 minutes.
They got it in the 70
th minute off a free kick.
Camille Jernigan played it into the box. After it bounced to the edge of the box,
Alayna Palamar played it back across the six, and Curney tipped it home past Casto to make it 1-1. For Curney, it was her third straight game with a point.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"That result is another big step forward for us," said Longwood Head Coach
Todd Dyer. "To come from behind and a get a point against a team that's had our number for a while says a lot about the character of this team. I thought we started slow but managed to keep it at a stalemate the first half."
"The goal we conceded woke us up, and we had a really good reaction, playing our best soccer and creating chances late in the game," Dyer added. "Now we prepare for another top team in the league."
