Farmville,VA- 9/23/22  The Ohio Bobcats @ Longwood Lancers Field Hockey opened the MAC field hockey conference play at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.  On the strength of a 4th period goal the Bobcats eventually prevailed 3-2 over the Lancers.

Field Hockey Drops Home Finale Against Nationally Ranked Duke

Lancers wrap up home play; prepare for Saturday's season finale

FARMVILLE, Va.- The Longwood Lancers fell to the Duke Blue Devils in their home finale on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
The Duke Blue Devils used an eight shot first half to take a three-goal lead into the third quarter. The Lancers fired two shots in the first half, both were blocked by the Duke defense.
 
The Blue Devils tallied three more goals in the second half, before Longwood responded with a goal from Maroussia Walckiers to finish the game.
 

WHAT THEY SAID:
 
"We are focused on playing our game come Saturday," said head coach Miranda Rigg on how they plan to respond for her teams season finale against CMU.  "We have grown a lot this season and I'm excited to just go for it come Saturday. 
We played a great team today and we will continue to play good teams in preparation to get better as a whole. "

"We showed some good hockey and competed with them throughout the game. I hope this gives our team some confidence that we can compete and play with teams like Duke."

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
 
Lara Van Nunen recorded three saves in net
 
Duke managed eight assists on the afternoon.
 
Walckiers goal was the 11th of her career and seventh of the season.
 
UP NEXT:
 
The Lancers wrap up their season when they travel to Mount Pleasant, Michigan on October 29th to take on the Chippewas of Central Michigan.
