FARMVILLE, Va. - Mary Washington used a strong doubles performance four singles wins to beat Longwood women's tennis 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Lancer Courts.
With the win, Mary Washington improved to 5-1 this season, and have now won four duals in a row with their lone loss coming in a narrow 4-3 decision to George Mason.
After conceding the double's point to the Eagles, the Lancers responded with wins in the first two positions of singles.
Adelaide Thuilot made her collegiate debut in the first slot, battling back from an opening set loss to beat Claire Coleman 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 to improve her record to 5-5.
Joining her at a team-best five wins was sophomore
Maria Saez, who dropped just one set in a dominant 6-1. 6-0 win over Abby Moghtader in the second slot for the second Longwood point of the afternoon. Saez has now won four of her last five single bouts for the Lancers.
However, the Eagles responded by winning the remaining four matches, clinching the dual win at 5-2. Hana Kimmey improved to a team-high 5-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Longwood's
Alexandra Hincu, while Rachel Cooper and Amanda Hagino each picked up their fourth win of the season.
Longwood will continue their home stand on Sunday, March 28 when they welcome Bluefield College to the new Lancer Courts at 2 p.m.
