PETERSBURG, Va. – Back on the court after a week off, the Longwood men's tennis team got back on their feet with a 7-0 sweep over Commonwealth opponent Virginia State.
The Longwood men picked up a win for the 11th time this season and snaps its two match losing streak after two conference defeats at the hands of UNC Asheville and Presbyterian. The win is the latest in Longwood's (11-7, 1-4 Big South) final push for the postseason.
"It's been a week since playing and we've had an emotional season," said Longwood's second-year head coach and director of tennis Jhonatan Medina Alvarez. "Some ups and downs, but today's win will get us ready for next week and our final conference matches. I know this will get us ready for conference play and I am excited for the rest of April."
In their return to the court in a dominant fashion, the dynamic duo of
Amadeo Blasco and
Guilherme Sergio took a 7-5 win from Virginia State's (1-3-1) Sultan Kenes and Jonathan Fuchs at the top position. "It was good for our confidence and we're happy that we have a winning season," Sergio said, "We're on our way to reach our goals especially after today's match."
