High Point Nullifies Ellis’ Historic Night, 81-60

Junior Micaela Ellis Joins Longwood’s All-Time Top-10 Single Season Assist Leaders in Loss to Panthers

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Junior guard Micaela Ellis became the first player in the Division I era to join Longwood's all-time top-10 single season assists leaders, but a balanced High Point effort led the Panthers past Longwood, 81-60, Monday night inside the Millis Center.

Ellis, who started the night needing three assists to join Longwood's all-time top-10 single season assist leaders, picked up the three assists she needed for the sixth straight game and the 20th time in the last 21 games. Ellis joins former Lancer Nicki Hall Atkinson with 121 assists on the season and becomes the first player in the Division I era to join the list.

With her breakout season, Ellis sits just 12 assists shy of joining Longwood's all-time top-five in single season assists, as Longwood's lone captain is leading the conference with her 4.3 assists per game. Ellis continues to shine for a depleted Longwood roster – limited to just eight players in Monday's game due to injury – by leading the conference in minutes played and being the lone Lancer to start all 28 games this season.

Ellis' historic night was nullified by a balanced High Point scoring effort that saw four Panthers finish in double figures, shoot .519 (28-of-54) from the floor and rack up 20 assists.

Camryn Brown led High Point with a team-high 13 points, while adding five assists, four rebounds and a steal. Shea Morgan, Kat Harris and reigning Big South Player of the Week Kaylah Keys each added 12 in the win.

The win for High Point (14-14, 12-5 Big South) marks its eighth in the last nine games, as the Panthers move into third place in the conference standings with a game left. Longwood (4-24, 1-16 Big South) drops its fifth straight game.

Senior Eboni Gilliam scored a game-high 19 points and finished two rebounds shy of a double-double performance with eight boards. The game marks her fourth time in the past eight games that she's finished in double figures, as she finished one point shy of her fifth double-double performance of the season.

Ciarah Bennett (11) and Khaila Hall (10) scored in double figures for the second straight game, while each adding two assists and a steal in 26 minutes of playing time.

With the conclusion of the road slate, Longwood will wrap up the 2016-17 regular season Saturday, March 4 against Presbyterian. That game will be the home finale for Treasure Avery, Eboni Gilliam, Emily Nylen and Brenna Robins. The opening tip is set for 2 p.m., inside Willett Hall.
