Late Run Lifts Buccaneers Past Longwood, 71-63

Ashlee Jones Paces Three Lancers in Double Figures With Career-High 19 Points

CHARLESTON, S.C. – In a game that saw four ties and seven lead changes, Charleston Southern utilized a 14-3 run over a span of three minutes, 30 seconds of the fourth quarter en route to a 71-63 win over Longwood Saturday afternoon inside the Buc Dome.

After a Ciarah Bennett jumper tied the game at 51-all with 5:01 on the clock, Charleston Southern went on a 14-3 run led by six points from Ke'Asia Jackson throughout that stretch. Once down 11, Longwood was able to close the margin back to six points with less than a minute, but was unable to complete the comeback bid.

With the win, along with a Presbyterian loss, the Buccaneers (15-12, 9-7 Big South) move into fifth place in the conference standings with two games remaining on the schedule. Longwood (4-23, 1-15 Big South) drops its fourth straight game.

Longwood held the lead for the majority of the opening 20 minutes, as neither team was able to build more than a five point advantage.

Jackson led Charleston Southern with 17 points, while adding five assists, a block and a steal in 32 minutes. She and Alyssa Mann combined for 29 of Charleston Southern's 71 points, as Mann finished the afternoon 5-for-12 from the floor with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Jackson nearly matched Longwood's Ashlee Jones point-for-point, as the Longwood sophomore poured in a career-high 19 points and neared a double-double with seven rebounds. The performance is part of a breakout stretch in which Jones has averaged a team-best 9.4 points in her last five games, including three games in double figures.

Khaila Hall added 12 points and Bennett finished with 11 to score in double figures for the second straight game, as Saturday's game marked just the third time throughout the season Longwood has had three double figure scorers and came up without a win.

Meanwhile, Micaela Ellis played all 40 minutes, scoring eight points and adding five assists. With her five assists, Ellis moves within three of joining Longwood all-time top 10 single season assists leaders, as she's registered three or more assists for the fifth straight game and the 19th time in Longwood's last 20 games.

Longwood closes the road portion of its schedule Monday, Feb. 27 at High Point. The opening tip from the Millis Center is set for 7 p.m.
