FARMVILLE, Va. –
A pair of double figure scorers and a stout defensive performance led Liberty to a convincing 71-38 win over Longwood Tuesday night inside Willett Hall.

Holding opponents to 64.2 points per contest this season, the Flames frustrated the Lancers offensively and held Longwood to .308 (16-of-52) shooting and an .111 (2-of-18) three-point shooting percentage – Longwood's lowest three-point shooting clip on the season. For the Flames, it matches the lowest point total they've held an opponent to this season, as Liberty also held West Liberty under the 40-point barrier.

The Flames held Longwood to a season-low 11 points in the opening half, limiting the Lancers to 5-of-26 (.192) from the field. Liberty found their offensive groove in the opening two minutes, 26 seconds of the second quarter, hitting four of their first five shots and going on a 10-2 run to open a 12 point lead.

Iva Ilic scored 10 of her 12 team-high 12 points in the third quarter helping Liberty to nearly double its halftime lead. Nene Johnson joined Ilic in double figures with 11 points and an assist. Ola Makurat finished one point shy of a double-double with nine points, 10 rebounds, while adding a pair of blocks and an assist.

The Flames (11-15, 10-5 Big South) win their second consecutive game and sweep the season series against the Lancers to move into third place in the conference standings with three games to go in the regular season. Meanwhile, Longwood (4-22, 1-14 Big South) drops its third straight game since earning an 83-78 win over Winthrop.

Ciarah Bennett scored a game and season-high  13 points for the Lancers, adding a pair of assists, a block and two steals in 25 minutes. Senior Eboni Gilliam also finished in double figures with 10 points to mark her team-high 13th game in double figures on the season.

Micaela Ellis added four assists and three steals to mark the 19th time on the season she's finished with at least three steals in a game. Ellis moved to within eight assists shy of moving into the top 10 in program history in single season assists.

Longwood looks to rebound Saturday, Feb. 25, as the squad travels to Charleston Southern. That game marks the first of two straight road contests, before Longwood concludes the regular season schedule with senior day March 4 against Presbyterian.
