FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood men's soccer and field hockey teams will host their respective home openers in doubleheader action Sunday at the Athletics Complex.
Men's soccer kicks off the day as the Lancers welcome the Pittsburgh Panthers out of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Longwood is coming off of a 1-0 season opening win at VMI last Saturday. The contest is a return trip after the Lancers traveled to Pittsburgh last season and came away with a scoreless draw.
Longwood field hockey will wrap up the doubleheader with a 2 p.m. contest with in-state rival VCU. The match marks the 11th straight year Longwood and VCU have met on the turf. The Lancers hold a 6-4 advantage in the past 10 meetings with each team alternating wins over the last four years.
The field hockey team will also be welcoming members of the Little Lancers Kids Club to Sunday's game. Beginning at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Little Lancers pregame party will occur between the two fields at the Athletics Complex. Kids Club members will join the Lancers on the field for the starting lineups before taking in a great game. Following the conclusion of the game, Little Lancers will be able to partake in a clinic with members of the field hockey squad.
Admission is free to both the soccer and field hockey games. The men's soccer game will be broadcast on the Big South Network available for free at
