No. 3 Longwood to Host No. 6 Campbell in Big South Quarterfinals

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University men's soccer team has earned the No. 3 seed for the 2013 Big South Conference Championship, which will take place on November 12, 15-17. The Lancers will host No. 6 Campbell University in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. The postseason Big South Championship event includes ticket prices of $5 for adults and $1 for students with an ID. Admission is free for children ages five and under.

"We are honored to be in the mix at this stage of the season and are delighted to be hosting a first round game, where our home turf has been a fortress this season," said head coach Jon Atkinson. "We have to win to keep our season alive and it feels incredible to be playing in these marquee games, as it is what every team in the country hopes to be doing. I urge all Lancers to come along to the Athletics Complex to be our 12th man in what promises to be an enthralling encounter between two entertaining teams.

"Finishing third in only our second year in the Big South with such a young squad is remarkable and I am happy for the lads because they have worked exceptionally hard to put themselves in a great position. Campbell is a quality outfit, and really there are no easy games at this juncture, so we will welcome the Camels on Tuesday and put forward our best effort."

The Lancers head into the tournament after finishing 7-8-3 overall, including 6-3-1 in conference action. Longwood has been solid at home all season with a 4-1-1 mark in league games at the Athletics Complex. Campbell closed its 2013 regular-season campaign with a 5-10-3 overall record and a 5-4-1 conference mark.

Tuesday's match will mark just the third meeting ever between Longwood and Campbell in the sport of men's soccer. The Fighting Camels now hold a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series, including a 3-1 victory at home earlier this season on October 23.

Coastal Carolina earned the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the Big South Championship. The Chanticleers will host No. 8 Winthrop also at 6 p.m. on Nov. 12, while No. 2 High Point will take on No. 7 Liberty at 8 p.m. No. 4 Gardner-Webb will host the final first-round match at 6 p.m. against No. 5 Radford. The semifinals and finals will take place on Nov. 15-17 at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be broadcast on the Big South Network, while the championship game will be aired on ESPN3.
