Richmond is coached by 17th-year head coach Peter Albright, and finished 7-9-2 a year ago, including a 1-0 win past Longwood in Farmville. The Spiders, members of the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10), return 10 starters among 18 letterwinners and have added nine newcomers to their program. UR is led by sophomore Becca Wann, last year's A-10 Rookie of the Year, who led the team with 10 goals and 21 points; she tallied the game-winner against the Lancers. Howard is coached by third-year head coach Brent Leiba, and finished 6-10 a year ago, including a 2-0 loss at Longwood. The Bison, members of the Great West Conference, are led by junior Retha Koefoed who led the team with six goals and 12 points. Longwood is 1-3-1 all-time versus Richmond, and the Lancers are 9-2 all-time against Howard.

2011 Captains
Fifth-year senior defender Katie Devlin will serve as a team captain for the second consecutive season, while senior defender/midfielder Kacie Oliver and junior forward Lindsey Ottavio are in the team leadership roles for the first time. The veteran and talented trio has combined for 145 career starts, 27 goals, 11 assists, and 65 points.
