Kaye Goulding|Tickhill, England (Wakefield Girls) recorded five saves in the shutout victory. Longwood returns to action on Thursday, October 6, when it faces the University of the Pacific at 3:30 p.m. in Richmond. Despite being a Norpac member, the match will be a non-conference match.
Longwood's first five shots of the match were off-target, but Verhulst broke through and scored from the right side from 13 yards out at 34:59. Goulding made three saves in the first half as the Lancers led 1-0 at halftime.

Appalachian State outshot Longwood 12-9 and had a 10-2 advantage in penalty corners. Sullivan attempted a team-high two shots while seven others attempted one shot. Goulding recorded five saves in 70 minutes for her second shutout of the season. The Mountaineers were led by Brooklyn Shearer and Brooke Angellella with three shots each. Bridgette Street made two saves while playing the duration in goal.
