WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a hard-fought 10-9 baseball decision on the road at the College of William and Mary from the Colonial Athletic Association Tuesday night in Williamsburg. The Lancers (17-16) were once-again led by senior
Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) with four hits, including a home run, against the Tribe (22-14) who scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Longwood will play again on Wednesday, April 21, hosting Norfolk State University of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for a doubleheader in Farmville beginning at 3 p.m.. Admission is free at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
Longwood fell behind early as William and Mary scored two runs in both the first and second innings before the Lancers tied the game at 4-4 with four runs in the third. The Tribe responded with four runs in the third as well to lead 8-4 but LU added two more runs in the sixth to close to within 8-6. W&M also scored a run in sixth to lead 9-6 but the visitors scored two runs in the seventh to make it 9-8, and tied it at 9-9 with a run in the top of the ninth. The hosts, however, answered once-again while scoring the decisive run in the ninth with two outs on an RBI single down the left field line by Ryan Brown.

Dustin Sollars/Midlothian (Cosby) (1-4) singled with one-out and later scored unearned on an error. In the ninth, freshman
Scott Laabs/Glen Allen (Deep Run) (1-1, RBI) had a run-scoring double to tie the game, though the Lancers left the bases loaded during the at-bat. Junior

Troy Dickman/Midlothian (Midlothian) (2-5) took the pitching loss Longwood in late relief, allowing two hits and one run, earned, with no strikeouts and one walk over the final 1.2 innings. Freshman
Kyler Morgan/Lancaster, Pa. (Lampeter-Strasburg) tossed 4.2 innings of middle relief, scattering four hits and one run, earned, with one strikeout and no walks.
Jonathan Slattery (3-4, RBI)?had three hits, including a double and an RBI single, to lead William and Mary, while Tadd Bower (1-3, 2 RBI) and Derrick Osteen (1-5, 2 RBI) each had two RBI for the Tribe. Jay McCarthy (2-2) had the mound win for W&M with the final 2.2 innings of relief, allowing four hits and one run, earned, with two strikeouts and three walks.
Cerreto [.470, 10 HR, 20 2B, 51 RBI], Havers [.369, 1 HR, 7 2B, 25 RBI], and Jones [.345, 3 HR, 9 2B, 19 RBI] each extended their respective current hitting streaks to 13, 12, and eight games.
