FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 17-5 baseball decision to visiting George Mason University of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tuesday afternoon at Bolding Stadium in Farmville. The Patriots (6-4) scored seven runs in the second inning and never looked back en route to their road victory against the Lancers (7-5). Longwood will play again on Wednesday, March 17, hosting another CAA member, VCU, on St. Patrick's Day beginning at 6 p.m.. Admission is free to all home baseball games at Bolding Stadium in Farmville.

Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) (1-4, RBI) hit a two-out, solo home run to left center field for his second homer this season. George Mason responded with seven unearned runs on three hits in the second inning, aided by two errors, a passed ball, a wild pitch, and three walks. Shane Davis (1-5, 3 RBI) delivered a two-out, two-run home run during the at bat, while Ryan Soares (3-5, RBI) added an RBI double. The Patriots added three runs in the third, two runs in the fourth, and three more runs in the fifth to lead 15-2. In addition to Davis and Soares (three doubles), George Mason was led offensively by Brett Hendricks (3-4, 2 RBI), Nick Allen (2-3, 3 RBI), Jeremy Haas (2-6, 3 RBI), and Josh Steinberg (1-1, 2 RBI). Kevin Crum (3-0) collected the mound win for the Patriots, pitching the first 2.0 innings of a pre-determined staff day (six), scattering three hits and one run, earned, with one strikeout and no walks.
