BOX SCORE

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 3-1 women's soccer victory past visiting Atlantic Sun Conference member Campbell University Wednesday night at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.  Senior Kaylyn Mahon/Spring Grove, Pa. (Spring Grove) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 33:29 as the Lancers won their fifth consecutive match to improve to 5-2 while the Fighting Camels are now 3-4.  Longwood will return to action on Sunday, September 20, on the road at the University of Richmond from the Atlantic 10 Conference in Richmond beginning at 7 p.m..

All of the scoring in the contest took place in the opening 45 minutes as Longwood got on the scoreboard first when senior Michelle DeSieno/Centreville (Chantilly) took a poorly played ball by the defender and found the back of the net at 13:58.  Campbell responded quickly on a corner kick opportunity at 16:01 when Annabelle Gibney headed the ball into the goal from the serve by Ashley Wagner.

The Lancers tallied the game-winner at 33:29 as Mahon took two successive passes in the center of the box from senior Tia Nardella/Brookline, Mass. (Brookline) and freshman Nikki Glisson/Mechanicsville (Hanover) and placed a hard shot past the keeper for her first goal since her freshman year.  Mahon had missed 22 matches over the past two seasons prior to this fall with two season-ending knee injuries.  Sophomore Kacie Oliver/Portsmouth, R.I. (Portsmouth) finished the scoring on the night with her second goal in as many games at 42:18, beating the keeper on a free kick from 25 yards.

“After a rough 0-2 start, we knew we had to get the most out five consecutive home games,” said 16th-year Longwood head coach Todd Dyer '93.  “To win all five is pretty gratifying.  We're playing good, attacking soccer right now by creating chances and scoring goals.  Now, we just need to see if we can duplicate that effort on the road.”

Longwood took an 11-3 advantage in shots, including 6-2 in attempts on-goal, while each team had three corner kicks.  Freshman keeper Kyra Byron/Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) played the entire match in front of the net for Lancers with one save.  Jamie Panfil played the duration for Campbell as well with three saves.
