BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 2-0 women's soccer road decision at in-state and ACC member Virginia Tech Wednesday night at Thompson Field in Blacksburg. The Lancers' record is now 6-5-2, while the Hokies improved to 8-5-2. Longwood will play again on Friday night, October 17, hosting fellow United Soccer Conference (USC) opponent South Carolina State for Senior Night at the Athletics Complex on Johnston Drive beginning at 7 p.m.. It's free admission to all home fall sports at Longwood.
Longwood trailed Virginia Tech 1-0 at the intermission as Emily Jukich scored her team-best 11th goal of the season at 33:33 after collecting a loose ball in the box and finding the back of the net. The Hokies added another goal in the second half at 66:01 when Brittany Michels was successful on a shot from about 30 yards. The Lancers only opportunity on-goal came during the first 45 minutes at 27:24 on an attempt by sophomore

Virginia Tech took a 29-4 advantage in shots, though more reasonable at 9-1 in attempts on-goal, while the hosts also had a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. Redshirt-sophomore keeper
Marcia Biddle/Woodbridge (Gar-Field) kept Longwood in the match with six saves while playing the duration in front of the net for the visitors. Kristin Carden (61:08) had the only stop for the Hokies, while Ashley Owens (28:52) also saw action for VT. The Lancers now trail Virginia Tech 3-0 in the recent series that began in 2004 as the Hokies won the other matches by scores of 4-0 (2007) and 2-0 (2004).
It will be Senior Night on Friday for
Ingrid Hale/Littleton, Colo. (Chatfield),
Cassie Lynn/Virginia Beach (Kellam), and
Beth Shade/Mechanicsburg, Pa. (Cedar Cliff), though it is not the final home match of 2008. The Lancers will host Francis Marion University on October 22 at 7 p.m., and will also be hosting this year's USC Tournament at the Athletics Complex in Farmville November 1-3.
