Torres joined the Lancer cross country and track staff in the fall of 2025.
He helped the Longwood sprinters post their best results as a team in the spring of 2026, and he helped Lancer cross country continue to build with a young squad in the fall of 2025.
The Lancer women’s cross country team was fifth, matching their best program finish in team history behind a second-place finish by Sophie Farley that was the best placement in team history.
In addition, the both men’s and women’s track posted their best results ever at the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships along with a solid showing in their first full indoor season.
Ayden Stewart lowered the men’s 400m record, placing third at both the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship as well as the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championship.
Zachary Seidel placed third in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship, the first time a Lancer hurdler has had a podium finish, and he also had a podium finish in the men’s 60m hurdles at the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championship.
On the women’s side, Nyomi Rhodes continued to lower the program records for all women’s hurdles events and placed sixth in the women’s 400m hurdles in the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
Prior to Longwood, Torres most recently coached at Randolph College while also running for Liberty in his final collegiate seasons of eligibility. Torres specialized in hurdles at Liberty, where he finished as the Conference USA runner-up in the 400 hurdles, and he is eighth all-time in the 400 hurdles.
“Coach Torres is bought in on the vision of raising the standard for Longwood Track and Field,” said Longwood Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Brooke Craig. “He has a plan to develop our athletes into all-conference contenders whiles continuing to grow and develop our sprints, jumps, and hurdles. I am looking forward to working with him!”
As a coach at Randolph, he helped the women’s hurdlers lower their average time by three seconds this past spring. In addition, Randolph had a variety of sprinters earn all-conference honors and one sprinter qualify for nationals.
At Liberty as a runner, he ran the eighth-fastest time in the 400 hurdles in Liberty history, winning the WildCat Invitational with a time of 51.68. That time also was the fastest time in Conference USA during the spring.
Torres also holds his USATF Level 1 coaching certification. He holds his Bachelor’s of Arts in Kinesiology from Occidental College, where he also ran track and qualified for nationals at the Division III level. He then graduated with his Master’s of Science in Human Performance: Strength Training and Conditioning from Liberty this past spring.
