Young came to Longwood in the summer of 2023 from Old Dominion by way of Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
In 2024, she helped student-athletes tie the department record for GPA in a year as they combined for a 3.37 GPA. Better than 75 percent of the student-athletes also achieved a 3.0 GPA or better.
In 2025, she upped the ante. Student-athletes posted a 3.41 combined GPA for the year, and better than 81 percent of the student-athlete population carried at least a 3.0 GPA.
While at ODU, she served as an academic advisor for five sports.
"I'm excited to welcome Farrah in to our Longwood family," Hall said. "Our student-athletes have done some incredible work in the classroom these past few years, and I know Farrah will be able to help us keep progressing forward. I had the opportunity to see her work firsthand at SIUE, and I am fully confident in her ability to connect with our student-athletes and encourage them on their academic journeys during their time at Longwood."
At SIUE she worked as an academic advisor as well and she worked closely with both men's and women's basketball while there. She was responsible for certifying student-athletes with regards to academic progress through coordination with the SIUE registrar and compliance office. Young also kept track of NCAA and conference requirements to ensure student-athletes met requirements necessary for academic progress and graduation, and she also oversaw the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee there.
Prior to her time at SIUE, the native of Hickory, North Carolina, served as an Academic Advising Intern at Florida State where she worked with women's soccer and baseball. Additionally, she served as a teaching assistant for a first-year seminar class for freshman student-athletes
Young also spent two years as a graduate assistant with Kent State women’s basketball, assisting in recruiting, academics, team travel and video exchange. She also served as an Academic Advising Intern during her time at Kent State as well.
Young earned her master’s in Sport and Recreation from Kent State in 2019. She received her bachelor’s in Sports Management from Lenoir-Rhyne in 2017. She was a two-sport athlete at Lenoir-Rhyne. She spent all four years on the women’s basketball and track and field teams. She was a two-year captain in both sports.
