Brendan Scanlon is in his second season as a graduate assistant with the Longwood women's basketball team in 2026-27.
in his first in 2025-26, Scanlon helped Longwood post its second consecutive 20-win season for the first time at Division I and in 26 seasons overall. The Lancers finished 21-10, advancing to the Big South semifinals. Longwood placed five players on the all-Big South teams while graduate guard Malea Brown was named Co-Big South Defensive Player of the Year, giving the Lancers at least a share of the award four times in the last six seasons. Longwood went 11-5 in Big South play on the year and enjoyed a seven-game winning streak from Dec. 7 against UNC Pembroke to Jan. 14 versus Winthrop.Â
The Lancers finished fifth in the NCAA in bench points per game (30.9), sixth in turnovers forced per game (24.26), seventh in steals per game (13.7), ninth in offensive rebounds per game (16.1) and 11th in turnover margin (plus-7.03) in 2025-26. Longwood also received votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll in eight different weeks in 2025-26.
A four-year squad member at Saint Francis, the Northeast Conference school in Loretto, Pa., Scanlon appeared in 17 games over from 2021-25 for the Red Flash, missing 2023-24 and much of 2024-25 due to injury. He was a three-time of the NEC Winter Honor Roll recipient.

"GAs are special because they often do a lot of the behind the scenes work that goes unnoticed. During the interview process, I was impressed by Brendan's work ethic and professionalism. He embodied the characteristics of the Right STUPH and I feel he will be a great fit for the direction this program is going."
A standout guard at Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy in Boalsburg, Pa., Scanlon averaged over 20 points per game in each of his final two seasons with the Wolfpack, leaving as the program leader in points (1,257) and assists with nearly 400.

Scanlon, a State College, Pa., native, graduated Saint Francis with a degree in business analytics in 2025.
