WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Longwood lacrosse wrapped up a two-game road swing to open the season with a trip to William & Mary on Saturday afternoon.

Alexandra Hirst had two goals for Longwood (0-2), but William & Mary (1-1) had three goals apiece from Mila Millhouse, Grace Walter and Taylor McCall to pull away from Longwood after a defensive battle in the first half.

William & Mary took an early lead, but
Kendra DeFilippo cut it to 2-1 with five minutes left in the quarter.

William & Mary went back up by two early in the second before Hirst found
Bailey Stratton to trim it to 4-2 with 10:48 to go in the half.

The Lancer defense helped Longwood hang around, but the Tribe slowly stretched the lead to 7-2 at the half, and the home side busted the game open in the third quarter.

Lauren Solis got the win for William & Mary in goal and made three saves.
Â
Isabella McCullough made a career-best 14 saves for the Lancers in goal but took the loss.
