HOW IT HAPPENED:

Gardner-Webb took advantage of walks in the first to take a 2-0 lead, but Myles Webb roped an RBI triple down the line to get Longwood on the board, and a delayed double steal allowed Webb to score and tie the game.

However, GWU plated four in the third, with Merik Carter capping the rally with a two-run single.

Jae'dan Carter hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-3 in the home half of the frame for the Lancers.

GWU's Tanner Thomas hit a three-run double to open the scoring in the fifth, and three more doubles extended the lead to 12-3.

Mikey Urbaniak tripled in a run in response, and he came home to score one batter later on a grounder by Webb.

The Lancers rallied in the seventh to trim the lead to 12-9. Carter Newman opened the scoring with a two-run single up the gut, and Bentley Yeatts snuck an RBI single down the line. Tre Keels capped the scoring with a sac fly.

The Lancers loaded the bases in the eighth with two outs, but a fielder's choice ended the threat.

Jaden Stockton (2-0) earned the win for Gardner-Webb after coming on in relief in the fifth inning. He struck out five against two runs on a hit and two walks. Devin Pressley picked up a four out save with one strikeout for his first save of the season.

Ried Dittner (1-2) took the loss for Longwood. He gave up six runs on two hits and eight walks while striking out four.
