FAIRFAX, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team swept George Mason, 4-0, on the road in non-conference action on Friday.
The Lancers came back from down, 1-0, in doubles to take the point and the early lead.
The George Mason tandem of Niza Simunyola and Shari Saeed at No. 2 took the first match of the day to win over
Petar Belosevic and
Petter Lindquist. 6-1, before Longwood won the next two.
Timéo Puech and Maurico Gonzalez Paiva defeated Jacco Arends and Zavan Fahim, 6-3, from the top spot and
Alejandro Uribe and
Marko Mrdak topped Dustin Ha and Ekansh Kumar, 6-4.
Belosevic trailed, 4-3, in the first set at No. 2 singles but his opponent, Monil Lotlikar retired with an injury, giving Longwood a 2-0 lead in the dual.
Gonzalez Paiva then dispatched Arends, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3.
Puech clinched the sweep with a 6-3, 7-5 victory against Kumar at No. 1 singles.
With the victory, the Lancers' fifth consecutive against Mason, Longwood improves to 4-6 on the season, while the Patriots fall to 5-4 with the loss.
Longwood returns to the court Sunday at 11 a.m., hosting Howard on the New Lancer Courts.
