RICHMOND, Va. – Longwood baseball had two big innings go against it on the road at Richmond on Tuesday afternoon.
The Spiders (15-2) used a grand slam in the second and a three-run home run in the fourth to break away from Longwood (4-12) in seven innings.
Casey Gibbs, meanwhile, went 2-3 at the plate for the Lancers, but the damage was already done by the high-powered Spiders.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The home side offense got going in the second, as Richmond plated six runs. The Spiders had plated two and loaded the bases before Jack Arcamone cranked a grand slam for a 6-0 lead.
Longwood got on the board with a
James Nelson sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth, but Richmond's Michael Elko answered with a three-run homer in the bottom half of the frame.
While the Lancers plated a run on a Gibbs RBI groundout in the seventh, the Richmond pitching staff kept the Lancers at bay the rest of the way.
Tyler Rigot (1-0) picked up the win for Richmond after coming on in relief and pitching through the end of the fifth. He struck out four while giving up only one hit in scoreless relief work.
Justin Gunter (1-3) took the loss for Longwood. He came on in the second inning in relief and pitched into the fourth.

Longwood returns home to Buddy Bolding Stadium to host UMass Lowell on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. in Farmville, and the game will air on ESPN+.
