The First Pitch:
•   Longwood will make its weekend debut at Buddy Bolding Stadium for its first, and only, four-game schedule.
•   The Lancers have played at neutral sites, and had games canceled, due to inclement weather in the first two weeks of the regular season.
•   This weekend marks the third time that Longwood and UAlbany have played a multi-game series.
•   The Lancers opened the season with the Horizon League favorite (Wright State) and also had a series against a team from the Big Ten (Penn State).
•   The Lancers average two steals per game, which ranks in the top 50 in the nation. Tre Keels has been the clubhouse leader, with five, but
Myles Webb and
Mac Tufts also have multiple steals.
Â
Previous Series
•   Longwood fell in a three game series to Penn State out of the Big Ten on Saturday and Sunday.
•   Penn State's starting pitching pitchers slowed down the Lancers on Saturday, but Longwood responded with seven runs on Sunday.
•   Tre Keels led the team with three base hits, his first three-hit game of the season, and he added two steals.
•   On the mound,
Kyle Miller was solid for four innings, limiting Penn State to two runs on four hits.
•   The Lancers led 3-1 after two innings, and
James Nelson poked an RBI single in the fifth that gave Longwood a 5-4 lead.
•   However, Penn State retook the lead with a three-run sixth and never trailed thereafter.
Â
Around The Bases:
•   Longwood plays its third weekend series of the season in the matchup against UAlbany.
•   UAlbany, out of the America East conference, represents the fifth unique conference the Lancers will face through the first three weeks of the season.
•   UAlbany was picked to finish seventh in the America East this season, but the team had a pair of preseason all-conference selections in Ryan Ferremi (first base) and Dylan Banner (pitcher)
•   The Lancers have already played against Wright State (Horizon League), VCU (A-10) and Penn State (Big Ten).
•   The team won't repeat a conference, so to speak, until it plays against George Mason out of the A-10 in March.
•   Longwood has 16 extra base hits this season: 14 doubles, one triple and one home run.
•   That represents nearly half of the team's hits (33).
•   In addition, the Lancers are 14-16 on stolen bases.
•   Longwood is averaging two steals per game, which is third in the league,
•   The Lancers are tied for second in the Big South in efficiency stealing bases at 87.5 percent.
•   Tre Keels is tied for third in the Big South with five stolen bases.
•   On the flip side, the Lancers have caught six runners attempting to steal, which ranks third in the Big South.
•   Keels also is tied for eighth in the Big South in walks drawn per game (0.86).
•  Â
James Nelson popped the team's first home run, and he has already had a double and a triple this season as well. He is tied for the team lead in extra base hits with
Jae'dan Carter and
Myles Webb, who each have three doubles.
